Resume Review: What It Actually Catches

ResumeFix AI · Updated September 2026

You send out resumes and hear nothing back. At some point you start wondering whether the resume is the problem. A resume review is supposed to answer that. But not all reviews look at the same things, and a lot of them skip the part that matters most.

What a review should actually check

A resume fails in two places. It fails when a machine reads it, and it fails when a person reads it. Most free advice only covers the second.

A review that only fixes spelling and formatting is checking the easy stuff. The expensive part of getting filtered out is usually the parsing and the matching.

Review vs rewrite: two different jobs

These get sold as one product so often that people buy the wrong one.

A review tells you what's wrong and why. A rewrite produces a fixed version. You want the review first. If you skip straight to a rewrite without knowing what's broken, you get prettier formatting and the same problem.

The two-step version is: run a review, read the list of issues, then decide whether a rewrite is worth it.

What it costs

OptionTypical priceWhat you get
Subscription tools (Jobscan, Resume Worded, Rezi)$29–50 / monthScoring and suggestions you apply yourself
Human resume writers$179–1,500A rewritten resume, delivered in days
Cheap freelance gigs$5–50Often templated, sometimes outsourced
One-time AI review + rewrite (ResumeFix AI)$4.99–9.99Diagnosis + full rewrite, in minutes

The middle of that table is where people overpay. You don't need a month of subscription to find out your resume is weak. You don't need to spend $500 to fix it once.

The thing a review must not do

The worst habit in cheap resume services is inventing achievements. A fake "-40% processing time" collapses in the first interview question. A good review flags what's missing and marks it honestly ("no measurable impact found") instead of fabricating one.

If a service promises a specific ATS score from a specific vendor, be suspicious. Every ATS works differently. Nobody can honestly guarantee one vendor's number.

The honest version

A useful resume review tells you, in plain language:

ResumeFix AI runs this kind of check. It parses your resume, shows you what it understood, scores it transparently, and lists issues by impact. The rewrite uses only facts that are actually in your document. No invented numbers.
